The main types of mechanical damage

1. Scratches and chips on the profile. Damage can be superficial (cosmetic) or through, breaking the structure of the profile. Surface scratches and small chips can be filled with a special repair compound — liquid plastic or a wax pencil matched to the profile colour. After polishing, the damage becomes almost invisible. Deep cracks require a more serious approach. If the crack goes all the way through, the profile loses strength and the window can deform. In such cases the damaged spot can be reinforced or, if the damage is significant, part of the profile or the whole sash/frame is replaced.

2. A broken or cracked glass unit. A glass unit can break from a strong blow, a stone from the street, hail or a careless movement. Even if only one pane in a double unit has cracked, the airtightness is broken and the window stops doing its job. Replacing the glass unit is the only way to solve the problem. I remove the old glass unit, order a new one (made exactly to size, with the same characteristics) and fit it carefully with sealing.

3. Hardware damage. Replacing the damaged hardware elements is needed or, with serious breakdowns, a full replacement of the set. I select original spare parts for your system (Roto, Siegenia, Maco and others) and carry out the replacement with a subsequent adjustment.

4. Deformation of the sash or frame. A strong blow can bend not only the plastic but also the internal reinforcement. The sash skews, stops sitting tightly and rubs against the frame. Restoring the geometry is a complex procedure that can include dismantling the sash, straightening the metal reinforcer, and replacing the reinforcement. Sometimes it's cheaper and more reliable to order a new sash.

How I carry out repairs after mechanical damage in Minsk

My approach always starts with a diagnosis. I come to the site (anywhere in Minsk and the Minsk district), inspect the damage and assess whether it can be repaired or an element needs replacing. When a DIY repair isn't possible

Some damage seems minor but can hide serious problems. For example, a small crack on the profile can spread over time due to thermal deformation and lead to a broken sash. Preventing mechanical damage

Fit opening restrictors. They stop the sash from flying open too far and hitting the slope or wall in a draught.
Use protective films on the glass units. Special anti-shatter films hold the glass together on impact.
Explain to children that a window isn't a place for games.
For safety, fit child locks.

Frequently asked questions

Can a deep crack on the frame be filled so it doesn't spread further? In some cases, yes — if the damage isn't through and hasn't affected the reinforcement. I use a technique of drilling the ends of the crack and pouring in liquid plastic, which stops it spreading. But I make the final decision after an inspection.

What do I do if a pane in the glass unit has broken? Call a master to replace the glass unit. Replacing a glass unit yourself is difficult: you need to measure the dimensions precisely, order the unit, and fit and seal it correctly. I do this quickly and neatly.

How much does a glass unit replacement cost? The cost depends on the size, the number of chambers, the presence of an energy-saving coating and so on. I name the exact price after measuring. A replacement usually costs less than buying a new window.
