Window trimming — why, what and how often

Why do I always do this, even if you didn't ask for it, and even on a new piece of furniture?

You've wondered why a couple of years after the window is installed, the pen starts to run tight, the screwdriver comes up, the shutter stops being tight, opening and closing is getting harder?

The reason is usually one — lack of lubrication- What?

But that's not the service that you're offered at the price. Because lubrication is not an option. It's a base without which any window repair is meaningless.

Why is lubrication not a service, but a condition

Plastic window furniture is a dozen moving parts: six-barred gear, shutters, loops, corner transmissions, traction, leverage, lockers. They all work in heavy conditions every day.

Without lubrication, the metal is rubbing against the metal. First the violin. Then the tight movement. Then the wear of the parts.

The lubricant is a prevention.It extends the life of the mechanism by 2–3 times and prevents breakdowns that cost 5–10 times more.

How I work: lubrication is a part of any service

I don 't have a separate line of "window dressing" in the price tag because it's part of any of my work:

✔ What is it? Adjusting the windowI always lubricate all the moving nodes.
✔ What is it? Replacing the pen— after I install the new pen, I'm lubricating the reducer and the sprinkler.
✔ What is it? Replacing the sealant— I'm lubricating the mechanism while it's open.
✔ What is it? New furniture from the factoryAnd I'm still adding lubricant to the loaded places: loops, a reducer, an angle transmission.

And the last point is surprising to many. Why should you lubricate new ones? Because the factory lubricant is minimal. It's enough for a year or two. I add it to where the load is maximum. And your window will work easily for 3 years without any problems. It's free for you.

Why don 't other masters get the oil?

Three honest reasons:

It saves time.It takes five and seven minutes to lubricate the window: remove the pen, open the holes of the shaft, dig in the gearbox, roll over.

It saves the material.A good lubricant costs money. A tabletop doesn't work. Some people use WD-40 — it washes away the residual lubricant and leaves the metal dry.

They just don't know.Some artists think that it will work, and after a year the client comes back with a break.

How often should you lubricate windows?

Once a year — for most windows It's better in the fall, before the cold, in the summer the grease dries, the dust settles, in the winter the load is maximum.

Once a month — for active users Balcony door, kitchen window, open and close 10 and 20 times a day, wear faster.

Immediately — if there is a screenshot or a tight move It's the first sign that the lubricant's dry.

I'm wiping the excess stuff so it doesn't get on the sealant and profile.

The difference between 'just lubricating' and'regulating' + lubricating' is 35 rubles. But if there are any creases or a weakened pressure, the lubricating won't fix them.

The questions I'm asked the most

The lubricant won't spoil the sealant?

No, if you use the right lubricant. I only apply it to metal parts, carefully, without touching the rubber. If it happens, I wipe it out immediately.

Can I get some butter?

You can if you know what kind of ointment to take and where to apply it. But most people take WD-40 (it's a mistake; it washes the ointment) or they apply it where it's not needed.

New windows, they need a new one too?

Yes, the factory lubricant lasts for a year and a half, if the intensive use is less, I recommend the first prevention after 1 and a half years after installation.

Do you lubricate all the windows in the apartment or just the one they called?

I'm here and I'll just grind everything if you want. I usually offer it right away: extra time is short, and the effect on all windows is right away.
